The Foundry Shopping Centre in Scunthorpe is welcomed some very special canine guests to boost awareness for one pioneering charity.
Dogs for the Disabled is a charitable organisation that trains dogs to assist children and adults with disabilities to lead a fuller, more independent life. Every dog is taught to help with daily tasks such as opening doors, retrieving things or even taking off socks.

Representatives from the charity were on hand at the centre on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th February to offer free information and advice about the services they provide, as well as selling merchandise for no more than £5.
“This was a wonderful opportunity for families and children to learn about some amazing dogs and people. Lots of lives have already been transformed by Dogs for the Disabled and will continue to be with the public’s ongoing support,” said Peter Golightly, shopping centre manager.
“When collecting, every penny counts and I am always overwhelmed at people’s generosity and support. I’d like to say a big thank you to Peter and the team for allowing us to collect at The Foundry,” said Trish Field, fundraiser for Dogs for the Disabled.
“Representatives were dressed up as dogs for the occasion and even had their photos taken with shoppers”, added Trish.
Trish Field and other volunteers supporting the Dogs for the Disabled trekked to Peru last year and raised an impressive £80,000. A second trek to Nepal is currently being planned for March 2011.
